What are you voting for on the 6th of May
Date: 04/05/2010
The campaigning is nearly over and candidates and volunteers have tried to make their mark on the residents of Darlington.
So what are we voting for on May 6th.
Well , we will be voting for our beliefs as to how the Country is to progress Nationally and Internationally.
We will be voting on the promises and pledges given by the the candidates and their parties and
we will be voting on the past performance of the current Labour Government.
We will also be voting on which candidate will best represent Darlington in Westminster and look after the town's interests.
Voters have that difficult task of putting all these considerations together and making the decision where to put their cross.
For us however the task is an easy one as we have been able to judge all of these issues over an eighteen month campaign.
We do not see the Labour party being able to satisfactorily deliver progress on the economy or international relations as the party leader has shown a clear lack of trust and integrity.
He has put Socialist policy before the interests of the nation for instance in selling of our gold reserves and raiding pensions simply to create a view his management as Chancellor was good.
In reality he turned a sound economy into a disaster in thirteen years and never had control of the nation's finances.
Both the Labour party and Liberal party have made pledges , promises and statements which can not be achieved as electoral opportunism to win votes.
Labour have played and played again the so called class card ,don't they realise how offensive this is to middle England ,the very people who put them in to power.
Labour failed to support industry in the North East resulting in large scale closure such as Corus , unemployment continues to rise with no substantial solutions being provided to aid re-employment.
Similarly the Liberals have said they will not build any nuclear power stations and this decision will have further dire effects on the North east unemployment.
They also said a quarter of Britain's energy needs will come from wind farms , a statement which could only come from someone with a native view if energy generation.
Overall the Liberals have carried out a campaign of misleading the public ,stiting on the fence or claiming the major parties policies as their own.
They are inexperienced and not capable of managing our country.
Finally to the candidates themselves , the Labour candidate who clearly has no knowledge of Labour party policy as she has not promoted a single socialist issue was skilled and schooled by Darlingtons absent MP Alan Milburn.
She was parachuted into Darlington Borough Council by the Labour party and strangely given a cabinet post.
Her contribution has been as expected of a novice councillor and her selection was made merely on having lived in Darlington for some years.
The Liberal candidates comes from Reading and has also lived in Darlington for some years and is also a councilor on Darlington Borough Council where he exhibits many of the misleading traits now seen in his election campaign.
The Conservative candidate does not live in Darlington although he has committed to residing in the town if elected.
Through his army life at Catterick and with family living in Hurworth he is no stranger to the Town.
He fiercely defends his moral code and will not commit to things he does not believe in even if this is in contradiction to Conservative party policy.
His front line officer training has given him leadership skills not seen in the other candidates and he has not been tainted by Darlington Borough Council Cabinet.
He has an overriding ability to achieve targets and outcomes and will always put our town first.
