Building Schools for the Future
Date: 08/07/2010
Lets add a little more home truths to the issue of the above fund.
In her pre-election statements in Council and to the public at large through the press the Labour candidate now MP said she had secured £57million pounds of taxpayers [ Government ] money to quote " build three new schools in Darlington" , Branksome , Longfield and Hurworth.
On investigation we find this is as far from the truth as possible , the only commitment the lady received was to bring forward the opportunity for Darlington to submit a bid for these funds earlier than had been planned.
The fund was also at a maximum of £41 million and would not build three schools.
Darlington had not until this week submitted such a bid and would have been bidding with 18 other applicants in this round.
There was never any money gauranteed or set aside for this work.
Our MP raised the expectations of parents , children and educationalists in the areas of these schools simply to improve her chances of winning the election and should now apologise for the distress this has caused.
You have to be able to trust your MP or the job is untenable.
